Justice For Chickens: Demo Attendee (London)

Opportunity image

Available from 3 May 2023

Join us between 8-10am on Wednesday 3rd May 2023, High Court, London, for this groundbreaking moment for chickens.

In a UK first, we are taking the government to court over its ongoing use of Frankenchickens - chickens that are selectively bred to grow so big, so fast, that they suffer immensely in their short lives, all in the name of profit.

On Wednesday 3rd May we will be having our first day in court (as part of a two day hearing) which we hope will result in the history-making decision that finds that Frankenchickens are illegal across the UK.

We need YOU to join us for a peaceful demonstration outside the court hearing between 8-10am on this first day. You will be:

  • Holding placards which say "Justice For Chickens" OR your own home-made versions which we encourage you to bring

  • Handing out information to interested passers by

  • Be part of group photos/videos taken at event

  • Be part of making history for chickens!

  • Please bring a home-made placard with you, further info will follow after you sign up

We will be joined by vegan celebrity Lucy Watson, along with members of The Humane League UK staff and supporters, and Advocates for Animals. We also expect a media presence.

You only need to join us between 8-10am on the day, so this is ideal for people already in London. Perhaps you could swing by before work, we'd greatly appreciate your help.

By gathering a group of committed advocates together, we can demonstrate support for this issue on this crucial day.

More about the Judicial Review:

THL UK will argue in the High Court that fast-growing chicken breeds are illegal under current animal welfare laws, and the Government unlawfully permits their farming.

Fast-growing Frankenchickens constitute around 90% of the over one billion meat chickens slaughtered each year in the UK. If one billion chickens were put into a line it would go around the world 125 times.

Defra argues that it has no policy which condones or permits the use of Frankenchickens, despite fast-growing breeds being standard in the chicken industry.
